NEWS FROM THE EDITOR
Patricia F. Doering
One of the many requests we have had from site visitors and those who subscribed to the earlier print version of Second Hand News was this: "why don’t you open up a forum where collectors, buyers, sellers, traders and just interested thrift store and rummage sale buyers can talk?" Well, we thought that was a great idea and so with the Fall, 2004 edition of our newsletter, we are introducing our new "Discussion Board". Within that forum, you can discuss antiques, auctions, book sales, thrift stores, rummage sales, charities, collectible repair, pawn shops, recycling, saving money, used furniture and more. You can talk with each other about all kinds of things.....and we have also offered you a chance to buy, sell and trade. It isn’t like Ebay, though. You’ll need to post your item and hope someone sees it and then, they would contact you directly. To post messages, you will also need to register. That’s important. It is simply to protect you and to be sure you understand how to use the Board.
In conjunction with the Discussion Board, we are introducing a new section on behalf of the City of San Diego’s Environment Services Department, called "Salvage Exchange." If you are remodeling your home, replacing cupboards, tearing out stone tiles, putting in a new toilet or similar endeavors, the City would like you to sell, trade or donate those items to someone who may need them. You can arrange that through the Discussion Board, under "Salvage Exchange." We believe we are the only site in San Diego County offering this service, so please tell your friends and neighbors. Why put all of that reusable material into the landfill when someone else needs it or can use it?
As this is our Fall edition, it is time to add new items to the site. One of those is an extensive Book Section. Although we have attempted to confirm book phone numbers and hours, we have not had time to confirm all of it. Therefore, we suggest you call before going. And if you find someone is no longer in business or the description of their business, including the hours, has changed we would greatly appreciate an email to 2ndhand4u@cox.net. We hope you will continue to enjoy our site and we would love to receive your comments about our Discussion Board or the site in general.
